Pottery Class! Join us for this beginner hands-on 10-week exploration of the art and craft of wheel throwing.
One of the wonderful things about pottery is that it involves art, craft, science (physics, geology, chemistry), math, culture, executive function, design and creativity!
We’ll be demonstrating, discussing, and practicing the basics of:
THROWING: centering and shaping clay into various beautiful and functional forms. We’ll explore flat, round, functional and fun pieces!
REFINING: we’ll trim and refine pieces after they’ve firmed up a little, adding handles, knobs, or other embellishments.
DECORATING: we’ll liven up the surfaces of the piece with slip decoration and and learn the tools, materials, and methods used to create unique designs including sgraffito, slip-trailing, and mishima/inlay.
GLAZING: We’ll explore finishing the pieces with glazes and discuss the science of glaze combinations.
