Equity in Education: Engaging youth to imagine a new future in Detroit

What does equity mean, particularly in education? We first invited Detroiters to consider this question during the 2018 Month of Design. In the time since that event, the challenges in education have been beyond imagination, and as students live with the indelible impacts, they want their voices heard.

Join us for an inclusive, hands-on workshop to re-consider the complicated question of equity in education. Using Design Thinking tools and methods, you will engage with students, and collaborate with fellow community members to imagine new social, economic, and political futures for education and contribute to a positive and productive discussion around our city’s need for equitable opportunities. Whether you are a middle or high school student, parent, college student, designer, educator, entrepreneur, nonprofit leader, neighbor/resident, government official, or employer, your experience and voice matter. Nibbles and networking are included.

Parking

Parking is available in the 850 Witherell Lot adjacent to the GVSU Detroit Center with an entrance on Witherell Street. This is a credit card-only lot. There are also many other lots and street parking available within a short walking distance of the GVSU Detroit Center.
